The new publication called Plants and Nutrition of the Great Moravian Mikulčice provides the latest findings of the archaeobotanical research of the Mikulčice-Valy Stronghold to the general public. The presented Volume IV of the Mikulčice-Guide series will attract readers not only with the written content but also with rich illustrations. The “atlas” of plant species documented at the stronghold during the Great Moravian period forms the basis of the book. Attention is paid to both traditional cultural crops providing the basic livelihood of the stronghold’s inhabitants and to the luxurious varieties of fruits and vegetables characterizing the court culture of the power centre. The book also includes a part about agricultural strategies and the nature of the economy of the site. The presented publication is intended to serve those interested in archaeology and botany, as both these disciplines are intertwined here. Their connection contributes to a better understanding of the Mikulčice-Valy Stronghold in the context of the surrounding natural environment and its economic potential.
