At the end of 2014 the Institute of Archaeology of the CAS in Brno published a book by Marek Hladík called Hospodářske zázemie Mikulčíc (The Economic Background of Mikulčice). The structure of settlement in the central reaches of the River Morava from 9th to the first half of the 13th century. The aim of this work is to (re)construct settlement forms and structures and the research into the development of the settlement system in the economic base of the early-mediaeval central agglomeration Mikulčice-Valy, which is defined as a 10-km circle around the power centre. The position of this area is researched in the context of the wider region of the middle Morava. The basic principle of this research is analysis of the relationship between the formal characteristics of archaeological data and geographical area. Practically, this research is based on work in the GIS environment.
