At the end of 2013 the Institute of Archaeology in Brno published a book by Marian Mazuch called Great-Moravian pottery and the so-called younger Great-Moravian horizon. This text deals with the description and definition of two significant pottery styles – the Blučina and Mikulčice style − that are typical for peak-quality Great Moravian pottery production. Both styles are represented in archaeological situations from late 9th century and the dynamic quantitative growth in Mikulčice pottery makes this element a significant phenomenon, and at the same time an important chronological standard for determining the high phase of settlement in Mikulčice and Great Moravia. Thus pottery becomes not only a means of dating but also of socio-economic and political considerations.
